With the upcoming annual peach harvesting season, the China Canned Food Industry Association , in collaboration with the People's Government of Pingyi County, Shandong Province, and Shandong Mengshui Group, jointly organized the '2023 National Canned Peach Season Information Exchange and Market Analysis Conference.' The conference, co-hosted by the Local Town People's Government of Pingyi County and the Pingyi County Canned Food Industry Association, was held with great pomp and ceremony in Pingyi County, Shandong, which has been recognized as the 'Capital of Chinese Canned Fruits,' from June 18th to 19th.
Nearly 200 participants attended the conference, including Liu Youqian, Chairman of the China Canned Food Association, Wang Yudong, Deputy Secretary of the Pingyi County Committee and County Governor, county leaders, leaders of relevant industry associations, representatives from peach-producing regions across the country, and professionals from canned food processing, packaging, and equipment companies nationwide. This was the largest-ever recorded gathering for a seasonal exchange conference. The conference was chaired by Chao Xi, Secretary-General of the China Canned Food Association.
Meng Xiangshan, Vice Chairman of the China Canned Food Association and Chairman of Shandong Mengshui Group, delivered the opening speech at the conference. In his speech, he first expressed gratitude to the China Canned Food Association for organizing this meaningful event. Each exchange conference carries the hopes and aspirations of everyone involved. Whether it was the "peach boom" of last year that brought a sense of pride to the canned food industry or the changes in the domestic and international landscape, when we gather together and engage in in-depth communication and discussions, it will have a positive impact on the stable operation of the raw material procurement market, the prediction and development of the retail market, and the upgrading of products and technological advancements.
Looking back at the 40-year development of the canned food industry in Pingyi County, through the efforts of several generations, it has now formed a provincial-level industry cluster with fruit and vegetable canning as the main focus, supported by cultivation, packaging, logistics, and equipment. Pingyi County has been recognized as the "Capital of Chinese Canned Fruits," with its annual processed fruit canned output accounting for 30% of the national total. The canned food industry has become a pillar industry driving local economic development and increasing people's income.
Wang Yudong, Deputy Secretary of the Pingyi County Committee and County Mayor, congratulated the conference on behalf of the county committee and county government. In his speech, he fully acknowledged the contributions of canned food enterprises to the local economic and social development and emphasized the urgency and importance of the transformation and development of the canned food industry. The canned food industry in Pingyi County has developed into a provincial-level industry cluster integrating cultivation, processing, packaging, and logistics. The government needs to play a good role in overall coordination, improve work mechanisms, and promote the implementation of work. Market regulatory departments should strengthen supervision and service work in product quality, intellectual property protection, brand cultivation, and other aspects. Government departments will take this event as an opportunity to actively strengthen communication and exchange with the China Canned Food Association and well-known canned food enterprises from all over the country, firmly grasp the development trend of fruit canning, focus on breakthroughs in industry clusters, policy integration, and resource aggregation, and build Pingyi into a highland for the development of the canned food industry in northern China.
Ming, Vice Chairman of the China Canned Food Association and representative of Qingdao Kaichuang Food Co., Ltd., Wang Huiguo, Deputy General Manager of Shandong Yuquan Food Co., Ltd., She Gang, General Manager of Tianjin Mingyi Trading Co., Ltd., Kang Hengping, Chairman of the Baking Ingredients and Equipment Distributor Committee of the China Baking and Confectionery Food Industry Association, and Bai Zhe, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Sugar Association, gave detailed explanations on international and domestic market analysis and prospects for peach canned food, the future development path of the canned food market, demand analysis of the baking industry for peach canned food, and the production and sales of sugar in China, respectively.
Liu Youqian, Chairman of the China Canned Food Association, delivered a special report titled "Analysis of the Overall Situation of the Domestic and International Peach Canning Industry Market this Year." Firstly, Chairman Liu made necessary arrangements for this year's raw material procurement market and reminded all enterprises to carefully summarize the problems encountered in the previous production season. The impact of last year's "peach wind" should be taken into account, and this year's raw material acquisition should adhere to the principles of "stability, tranquility, and fairness." Stability is the key, and it is important to avoid blindly expanding production and purchasing. Take the time to analyze the market and price trends with a calm mindset. The vice-chairman units of the association and leading enterprises in the industry should assume industry responsibilities and possess a high level of political literacy. They must protect the fundamental interests of fruit farmers because without them, there would be no industry. Any behavior that harms the interests of fruit farmers must be avoided, and the stability of the raw material market order must be ensured.
The Chairman's report pointed out that China's peach canning industry has achieved synchronous development in terms of industry scale and product quality. The international market position is stable, with steady growth in export markets. The domestic market is continuously cultivated, and consumption is improving year by year. However, the industry also faces significant challenges, such as industry fragmentation, small-scale operations, disorderly competition, and major issues in product technology, processes, packaging, enterprise management, and innovation.
Based on extensive enterprise research and data analysis, Chairman Liu provided insights on raw material procurement prices, domestic and international market prices, exchange rates, costs, and other factors. Finally, several suggestions were put forward: 1) Adhere to production based on market demand and avoid blindly expanding production; 2) Focus on improving product quality and ensuring food safety; 3) Consolidate existing markets and strengthen the development of emerging markets; 4) Enhance communication within the industry; 5) Safeguard the industry's sustainable development.
The Chairman's report provided a comprehensive summary of the industry from a strategic perspective and offered scientific and rational analysis and insights into future market development.
Vice Director Liu Chongbo from the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Zaoyang City, a key peach production area in Hubei Province, delivered a speech on the "Situation of the Peach Industry in Zaoyang City." He provided a detailed overview of the peach production, harvest, processing, and market conditions in their region.
Party member Fu Xiao from the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Pingyi County also delivered a speech titled "From Scarcity to Global Harvest - Reflections on the Yimeng Peach Region in the Post-pandemic Era." He focused on the peach production, harvest, processing, and market situation in their region, particularly highlighting the changes and considerations brought about by the post-pandemic era.
Both speakers provided key insights into the production, processing, and market dynamics of their respective peach-growing regions.
In the final session of the conference, there was an arrangement for key representatives from attending companies to engage in exchange and deliver speeches. Each representative discussed the relevant aspects of the peach canning season. During the meeting, the representatives openly and frankly expressed their views on issues such as raw material procurement, stable purchase prices, and enterprise management. They candidly pointed out the current challenges and expressed their hopes that under the unified coordination of the association, market stability would be maintained and the industry would achieve high-quality development.
